MBBS STUDY PROGRAMME
We offer one of the best MBBS study programmes in the country delivered by a dedicated team of academics.
Each year approximately more than 150 students enter the faculty to follow the MBBS degree programme. Our graduates secure high ranks in the common merit order and excel at postgraduate examinations both locally and internationally securing competitive positions in clinical and academic fields. A revised curriculum based on integrated teaching learning methods has been adopted to suit the changing needs of the employment market throughout the world.
B.SC. HUMAN BIOLOGY STUDY PROGRAMME
Undergraduates in Sri Lankan Science Faculties who fulfil the criteria for registration for a Human Biology special/general degree will be eligible to follow the Part I and Part II of their degree course with the medical undergraduates.
Part I and Part II comprise academic studies on Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, General Pathology, Parasitology, Microbiology and Pharmacology respectively. Part III of the course comprises the specialization (3 terms).
DIPLOMA COURSE IN FORENSIC MEDICINE AND TOXICOLOGY
The Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura presents its Diploma in Forensic Medicine & Toxicology with the objective of building the capacity of non-graduate employees and A/L qualified students who wish to obtain professional qualification in the field of Forensic Medicine.
This is an innovative and multidisciplinary diploma course which is conducted by highly qualified and experienced academic staff. The curriculum has been developed with the assistance of local and international experts in Forensic Medicine in par with similar world class programmes.
DIPLOMA IN COUNSELING COURSE FOR PROFESSIONALS
This course aims to provide a good foundation in Counselling and knowledge on related theories in the area of mental health & abnormal psychology, sociology and psychology and their application to counseling. The practical aspect of the course includes basic counseling skills and personal development.
The course is conducted over a year during weekends at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and the University Psychiatry Unit, Teaching Hospital Colombo South. Students who successfully complete both practical and theory components are awarded the diploma.
SHORT COURSE IN TROPICAL MEDICINE
8-26 May 2023
This full-time course includes lectures, laboratory-based hands-on training including examination of mounted slides with causative agents of malaria, leishmaniasis, lymphatic filariasis, observing procedures, clinical ward rounds with bedside teaching, case-based discussions, and visiting National Communicable Diseases Control centers (i.e. Anti-malaria Campaign, Central Chest Clinic) in Sri Lanka.

The CDR was established in September 2012 by a cabinet directive in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayawardenapura.

CENTER FOR CANCER RESEARCH
Center for cancer research was established in July 2015 under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. Sampath Amaratunge and Dean Faculty of Medical Sciences, Prof. Surangi Yasawardene. The aim of this project was to initiate, facilitate and support basic and applied scientific research related to cancer by universities and multidisciplinary collaborative research centres that address themes of national importance.

CENTER FOR KIDNEY RESEARCH
Kidney (renal) disease is a problem encountered throughout the world. At present Sri Lanka is faced with an increase in renal disease with Chronic Kidney Disease being the major disease. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is characterized by progressive destruction of renal mass with irreversible sclerosis and loss of nephrons over a period of months to years, depending on the underlying aetiology. Yet unfortunately the incidence rates, aetiology, and demographic patterns of CKD in Sri Lanka are largely unknown as only few studies have been published on the topic. With the emergence of endemic CKD of unknown aetiology (CKDu) in the North Central Province in the 1990’s, a lot of research has been confined to the study of the aetiology of CKDu. Yet renal failure due to other causes which amounts to a large number has gone unnoticed. ...
NATIONAL CENTRE FOR PRIMARY CARE AND ALLERGY RESEARCH
National Centre for Primary Care and Allergy Research was Established in May 2017 by the funding of University of Sri Jayewardenepura as part of their Township Master Plan, with the intension of uplifting the university research standards to an international calibre, while expanding benefits for the neighbourhood community. This is in accordance with the Ministry of Health and University Grants Commission adjuring to strengthen the primary care programmes to fulfil future demand in parallel to the rise of non-communicable diseases, malignancies, infections in the region and country.
