CATHOLIC AND CHRISTIAN STUDENTS’ MOVEMENT

The Catholic and Christian Students’ Movement of the Faculty of Medical Sciences (CSM – FMS), is an extension of the society within the main campus. Recognizing the importance of fostering a supportive community of like – minded individuals, CSM – FMS hosts various religious and other activities to cater to students’ spiritual and other needs.

The primary mission of the CSM – FMS is to nurture the spiritual growth of its members, by helping to develop and uphold religious values, fostering inter religious harmony. The society encourages active participation in liturgical celebrations, Bible studies, retreats and service projects, all of which contribute to the holistic development of students.

The CSM is not only driven by its committee members but also benefits greatly from the wisdom, guidance and spiritual support provided by our dedicated chaplain, Rev. Fr. Saman Maximus. The chaplain plays a pivotal role in nurturing the faith of the society’s members and serves as a source of inspiration, guidance and pastoral care within the society.

The society recognizes the importance of fostering a sense of community among its members. Fun and interactive games held alongside Bible studies provide a chance for students to relax, bond and form lasting friendships amidst their busy schedules.

Christmas Carols

As the year draws to an end , with the festive season dawning, the CSM – FMS with collaboration of the main society organizes a carol programme yearly. The event creates a festive atmosphere filled with warmth, camaraderie, and the spirit of Christmas. With harmonious voices and joyful hearts, students of all religions gather to share the timeless melodies that resonate with the beauty and meaning of the season.

Multireligious Programme

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, a multireligious programme organized by the faculty was held in the month of January. Rev. Fr. Travis Gabriel, Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s church, Nugegoda conducted the prayer meeting for the gathering and carolers from the main society lent us their beautiful voices which coloured the event.  By creating a space for mutual respect and collaborative service, this programme contributed to the enrichment of the university community and encouraged individuals to embrace religious diversity as a source of strength and unity.
