Workshop on “Clinical case-based learning- CCBL” was organized by the Department of Medical Education with a view of discussing collectively, how to refine a process to use clinical case-based learning (CCBL) across the curriculum.
This workshop was conducted on 9th January 2024, from 9.00am to 12.00 pm. at the boardroom of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Total number of 41 academic staff were participated.
Prof R B Marasinghe introduced the resource persons to the audience. Prof Aloka Pathirana has given a briefing of the current status of the use of clinical case based learning and how it could fit with the curriculum. Thereafter Prof Chinthaka Balassoriya, resource person form the UNSW Sydney-Australia, initiated the interactive discussion. Dr. Kanchana Wijesinghe (convener-CBL) made a presentation on a draft document on clinical case-based scenario. Thereafter, other resource person who joined online, Prof Sean Kennedy, made a presentation to showcase a UNSW model on clinical case based teaching. Then, Prof Chinthaka Balassoriya led the discussion on what aspects could bring into CCBL. This discussion lead to identify a broad framework, by utilizing the draft document presented by Dr Kanchana, to furthering the CCBL. Thereafter, a role paly demonstration was done by dividing the group into three Phases namely, Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 and Prof Aloka Pathirana volunteered as the facilitator. Dean, Prof Manori Gamage, made a final wrap-up and proposed the vote of thanks for voluntary participation of two eminent resource persons form the UNSW, Australia.
