Young Gynaecologist Award (YGA) 2026
The South Asian Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SAFOG) is a regional professional body bringing together Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and allied maternal health specialists across South Asia.
SAFOG’s mission is to advance clinical care, education, research and policy in women’s health through regional collaboration, capacity building, guideline development and scientific exchange. Member countries include Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan and Maldives. The federation convenes conferences, supports training initiatives and fosters networks that promote evidence based practice to improve maternal and perinatal health outcomes across the member countries.
The SAFOG Young Gynaecologist award (YGA) was established to recognize and encourage early career clinicians and researchers who demonstrate exceptional promise in obstetrics and gynaecology. Since its inception in 2019, the award has been conferred annually to individuals selected on the basis of scholarly merit, originality and potential impact. Dr. Achintha Dilshan Dissanayake Senior lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology attached to Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura was the proud recipient of SAFOG YGA award 2026. Dr. Achintha received the prestigious award at the 15th SAFOG 18th NESOG International conference held from 16th to 18th April 2026 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr. Achitha presented his work on perinatal anxiety amongst women presenting for anomaly scans in Sri Lanka.
