We are proud to announce that Dinul Doluweera, a medical student from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, has achieved an extraordinary milestone by securing the top position in the National Merit Order List of MBBS Graduates for the 2016/17 intake. His exceptional performance is a testament to his dedication and reflects the high standard of medical education at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
Dinul has had a stellar academic record passing final MBBS with First-class honours as the top of his batch, with 13 out of 15 distinctions. He has consistently excelled in academics, obtaining first class passes in both 1st MBBS and 2nd MBBS examinations as well. He has brought glory to the faculty at multiple inter-university quiz competitions, as a member of the team that emerged champions at the SLCIM Internal Medicine Quiz 2023 and the ‘World Antibiotic Awareness Week’ Microbiology Quiz 2022, and 1st runners up at the ASN Inter-University Neurology Quiz 2024.
Beyond his remarkable academic success, Dinul Doluweera has consistently demonstrated his capabilities as an all-rounder, excelling in various extracurricular activities. He served as captain of the university chess team in 2020 and was a member of the university chess and swimming teams through out his time at university. During this, he was part of multiple accolades including clinching the championship at the Inter-university games in both chess and swimming. He has represented his school, university and country at numerous national and international events, including the World University Chess Championship in 2018 and 2020, earning him national colours in 2022 and university colours from 2018 to 2022. His love for sports extends back to his school years, where he represented Ananda College. His performances during that time won him the ‘Best Emerging Sportsman’ award at the Sri Lanka Schools Colours Ceremony in 2013. His chess prowess was recognized internationally when he was awarded the prestigious FIDE Candidate Master title by the World Chess Federation.
However, Dinul’s talents transcend beyond sports. As a student leader, he co-founded the English Literary Association at his faculty and served as its secretary and vice-president. As the president of the Sports Club of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, his leadership was pivotal in nurturing a strong sports culture within the faculty. He has also contributed as a content writer for various magazines and publications and as a compere at multiple local and international forums. As an orator and debater, he has won awards at several Inter-university and inter-faculty debating tournaments. He is also aesthetically gifted being a Vadya Visharad in Violin.
His contributions and performances at university earned him the awards of ‘Best Leader’ of the University and ‘Best All-Rounder’ of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, at the ‘J’pura Employability Skills Awards’ 2021. His well-rounded achievements in academics, leadership, sports and extracurriculars serve as an inspiration to aspiring medical students across the country. As he steps into his career as a healthcare professional, we are hopeful that his future contributions will continue to make our faculty proud!
