The Association of Sri Lankan Neurologists Inter-University Neurology Quiz 2024 was held on the 3rd of August at Courtyard by Marriott Colombo. This prestigious event saw participation from 12 medical faculties across Sri Lanka, each vying for the coveted championship title.
The competition was designed to test the participants’ knowledge in basic, applied, and clinical neurology, as well as the history of neurology. It consisted of 40 challenging questions, each correct answer being awarded with 10 marks while each wrong response cost 5 marks. Teams were evaluated using a sophisticated buzzer system, where quick thinking and rapid responses were crucial.
The USJ team gave a stellar performance, having led the first half of the tournament to emerge 1st Runners up
- Champions: University of Colombo – 95 marks
- First Runners-up: University of Sri Jayewardenepura – 65 marks
- Second Runners-up: General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) – 35 marks

The team was coordinated by Dr. Nilanka Perera from the Department of Medicine and was trained by a contingent of staff and alumni headed by Senior Professor Saman Gunathilake. The training team included Prof. Saraji Wijesekara, Dr. Nilanka Perera, Dr. Shiran Paranawitharane, Dr. Shanindra de Alwis, Dr. Indika Wettasinghe, Dr. Roshan Liyanage, Dr. Hirantha Hettige, and Dr. Nawashika Harshani.
Their performance reflected their dedication, hard work, and the excellent training they received and is a testament to the potential and the high standards of medical education of USJ. We congratulate the team and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.
