CBML Programme

A significant number of MBBS graduates will be working in primary care settings independently after the internship. The Faculty of Medical Sciences, USJ is geared to produce medical undergraduates capable of working in primary care settings via Community Based Medical Learning program (CBML) that has been introduced into the students’ curriculum.

Aim of the CBML Program

To empower students with knowledge, skills and favorable attitudes to enable them to work efficiently in any primary care setting with limited resources.

Preparation for the CBML Program

Initially a committee comprising academic staff of the Department of Family Medicine visits sites intending to cooperate appropriate hospitals into the program representing Type A, Type B, Type C and PMCU. Revising CBML log books and briefing students on the program is done prior to the event.

CBML Appointment

Student centered field visits are done concentrated on achieving knowledge and necessary skills at relevant hospitals/ facilities throughout a span of one week. Learning activities in multiple forms such as lectures, interactive practical activities, drills and case-based discussions are also done under necessary topics.

Students are required to complete the CBML logbook daily and it is inspected at debriefing sessions and the assessment of overall performance on the CBML program is done via a reflective writing and a structured viva.

Following the program conducted each year, student feedback is assessed in order to further improve the event in a more student friendly and a goal-oriented manner.
