Professor Bawantha Gamage, from the department of Surgery of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura was invited to deliver a Key note address at the 20th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery (WCES) which was held on 23rd to 26th October 2024 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre Kalkata. WCES is the flagship congress of the International Federation of Societies of Endoscopic Surgeons(IFSES).This is an annual academic fiesta held around the world with the participation of eminent Minimal Access Surgeons in the Globe. This year it was held with the collaboration of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES) in Kolkata – the “Cultural Capital of India”
There were four orations and five Key note addresses delivered by experts from USA, Spain, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India. This is the first time a Sri Lankan Surgeon was invited to deliver a Key note address in the WCES. Prof. Gamage delivered the key note address on Anastomotic health in colorectal surgery and also delivered another lecture on Laparoscopic Anterior resection : How I do it ? at the International Expert Column in the WCES.
