Research Committee – Writing a Research Manuscript

The Research Committee of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, successfully conducted the workshop “Writing a Research Manuscript: Enhancing Research Visibility – Scientific Writing and Medical Illustration Essentials” on 25^th June 2026 with the participation of 30 academics, researchers, and postgraduate trainees.

The workshop was designed to strengthen participants’ skills in preparing high-quality scientific manuscripts and enhancing the visual communication of research. The scientific writing sessions were conducted by Prof. Manjula Weerasekera and Prof. Nilanka Perera, who shared practical guidance on manuscript preparation, selecting appropriate journals, publication ethics, authorship, scientific integrity, and best practices for publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The medical illustration component was facilitated by Dr. Udara Senarathne, introducing participants to the principles of effective scientific visualisation, figure design, graphical abstracts, ethical use of AI-assisted illustrations, and practical approaches to creating publication-ready figures that enhance research communication.  

The workshop received highly positive feedback from participants, who appreciated the practical nature of the sessions and the expert guidance provided. The Research Committee extends its sincere appreciation to all four resource persons for their invaluable contributions and to all participants for their enthusiastic engagement, which contributed to the success of the programme.
