7th Annual Academic Session - 2010
The Seventh Annual Academic Sessions of the Faculty of Medical Sciences were held on 11 and 12 November 2010 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The sessions were organised under the leadership of the Research Committee, chaired by Professor S. B. Gunatilake.
The plenary lecture was delivered by Professor Saman Gunatilake, Professor of Medicine, titled “Medical Students: The Good and the Bad”. A highlight of the inauguration was a series of invited presentations by five academic members of the Faculty, showcasing research undertaken during their doctoral studies.
The scientific programme included three major symposia. The first, “Advances in Surgery”, featured presentations on endoscopic, liver, and laparoscopic surgery. The second symposium, “Emerging Infections”, addressed dengue, typhus, and leishmaniasis. The third symposium, “Modern Medicine”, covered topics including acute coronary syndrome, chronic kidney disease, and bone marrow transplantation.
In addition to the symposia, the sessions featured 15 oral presentations and 21 poster presentations, reflecting the breadth and maturity of research activity within the Faculty. The 2010 Academic Sessions marked a period of strengthened interdisciplinary engagement and growing national collaboration in medical research.
