Research Committee – 6th Annual Academic Session – 2007

The Annual Academic Sessions of the Faculty of Medical Sciences held in 2007 took place on 18 and 19 January 2007 at the newly established Anatomy Auditorium of the Faculty, marking a significant milestone in its academic development. The sessions were conducted under the guidance of the Third Research Committee and were organised by Dr Dulani Gunasekara (Chairperson) and Dr U. G. Chandrika (Convener). The Faculty Lecture was delivered by Vidyajothi Emeritus Professor Lalitha Mendis. The programme featured four plenary sessions covering gene, cancer and genealogy, obesity and metabolic syndrome, ethics in research, and the psychosocial impact of conflict situations, delivered by distinguished academics from the Universities of Colombo and Ruhuna. A dedicated symposium on IT and Medicine was also conducted. The sessions included 11 oral presentations and 8 poster presentations, reflecting the Faculty’s expanding research scope and interdisciplinary engagement.
