5th Annual Academic Session - 2001
The Fifth Annual Academic Sessions of the Faculty of Medical Sciences were held on 27 and 28 July 2001 at the Anatomy Auditorium, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The Organising Committee was chaired by Professor Narada Warnasuriya. The Faculty Lecture was delivered by Dr Palitha Abeykoon, former Director of Health Technology and Pharmaceuticals at the World Health Organization Regional Office for South-East Asia, and was titled “Medical Education and Practice in the 21st Century: Prospects for Developing Countries”. A pre-congress session titled “Your Queries on Research” was organised by the Research Committee, alongside guest lectures on contemporary topics including immunisation trends, bone micromorphology and osteoporosis, the use of twins in research, and colonoscopic evaluation in cervical disease. The sessions comprised 18 oral presentations and 12 poster presentations, reflecting a marked expansion in both academic participation and research output within the Faculty.
