Scientific Sessions 2017
The Eleventh Annual Academic Sessions of the Faculty of Medical Sciences were held on 24 and 25 May 2017 at the Golden Rose Hotel, Boralasgamuwa. The Scientific Sessions were conducted in collaboration with the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, and Base Hospital, Homagama, under the theme “Building Bridges for Better Health”, highlighting the importance of strengthening links between research and clinical practice.
This collaborative approach enabled the integration of diverse clinical disciplines onto a common academic platform, fostering meaningful exchange of knowledge among academics and healthcare professionals and significantly enhancing the quality and breadth of the programme. A key highlight of the sessions was the keynote address delivered by Professor Malik Peiris, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, titled “A lifetime of biomedical research: the excitement and challenge”, which provided an inspiring perspective on translational biomedical research.
