Applications are invited for the Faculty of Medical Sciences Oration 2024 to be held in October.

Faculty of Medical Sciences Oration

This is the prestigious oration of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura that recognizes outstanding achievement in research. It is delivered at the inauguration ceremony of the International Conference on Medical Sciences of the faculty. Substantial portion of the research work needs to be in the field of Medical Sciences and be conducted in Sri Lanka.

Guidelines for Submission

  • Substantial portion of research work referred in the oration should be based on original research.
  • The oration should be written in the IMRAD format. However, other formats are accepted in relation to the content requirements.
  • The oration manuscript should be typed using Times New Roman, size 12, double line spacing. Harvard or Vancouver system of referencing can be used.
  • All research involving human or animal subjects, the ethical approval statements should be included in the manuscript and approval document copies should be submitted.
  • In case of multiple investigator research, the applicant needs to provide his/her contribution to each part of the research process i.e. design, data collection, analysis and writing of manuscript. A declaration by the applicant needs to be attached with the manuscript that other co-investigators have no objection to the submission of the manuscript.
  • Applicant should declare if part/all research work of the manuscript has already been presented as an oration, funding sources and conflicts of interests.
  • Applicant should submit one page (A4 size) account indicating the salient points of the findings and contribution made to advances in knowledge and practice on the subject.
  • Two soft copies (only one copy should have the name of the applicant. Other copy should not have any identification details of the applicant or the co-investigators) of the manuscript should be emailed and one hard copy submitted to,
