Pre-University Work Experience
This is a short-term volunteer service which will be performed by a student {Advanced Level (G.C.E A/L) or after Ordinary Level (G.C.E. O/L) or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE): London or local syllabi} awaiting the application process to foreign universities.
Duration
Minimum 40 hours and Maximum 80 hours (as requested by the student)
Type of work that can be undertaken by the student
- Research: Data collection, data entry, help out in any other safe research procedures decided by the supervisor and being an observer in the laboratory.
- Hospital wards & clinics/ Family Medicine clinic/ Community Medicine: working as an observer & helping out patients under supervision, helping the doctors and nursing staff etc. as decided by the supervisor within the ethical and legal framework. This is strictly an observership.
No remuneration will be provided by the university

How to apply
The parents should contact the Pre-University work experience coordinator (preuniwork@sjp.ac.lk) via an email requesting for a placement.
The following documents should be attached to the email for the application.
- The filled and signed application form with the agreement to terms and conditions.
- Cover letter written by the student explaining her intended learning outcome/s (150-200 words)
- The student support letter issued by the school confirming the studentship with the current year of study and the need for the work experience (PDF or a scanned copy -1 page)
- A scanned copy of the student’s birth certificate
- A scanned copy of the current citizenship confirmation document of the student (National Identity Card, Passport etc.)
- Receipt of the application process fee
Registration Fees
For a foreign citizen: US$ 100/- (Application process fee US$ 20/-*)
For a Sri Lankan citizen LKR 15000/- (Application process fee LKR 2000/-*)
*Application process fee will be deducted from the course fee. Your application will not be processed until you submit the receipt of your application process fee. Please indicate your name clearly when submitting the receipts. Once you receive the offer letter from the Pre-University work experience coordinator by email, you are requested to pay the balance of the registration fee before commencement. The payment receipts should be available for the Faculty administration to issue the commencement letter.

Air fare, accommodation and meals will not be provided.
Upon successful completion of the voluntary work, your supervisor will issue a voluntary work completion letter in the relevant Department Letterhead through the Dean.
