DIRIYA ARUNA
"Diriya Aruna", a charity project conceived by the Faculty of Medical Sciences in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, aims at providing necessary infrastructure facilities to needy students in Sri Lanka. Since its inception in 1997, it has reached out to 16 schools island wide. In each installment, a school is sought and classrooms constructed to meet the demands of the student population in the institution. This is indeed a mammoth project which ensures that the children growing up in poverty, would achieve an excellent education. We believe that education is the most effective way for individuals to improve their own lives. Therefore encouraging the young generation by providing necessary support, is most certainly the best way to achieve this final outcome. Every little bit of financial support, goes a long way in Sri Lanka across the streets and streams to approach the most needy students in an underprivileged education at institution. This is the 16th of the victorious step towards a future where children learn well, irrespective of their financial status.
"Diriya Aruna" is an annual social services project conducted by each successive batch of the Faculty Of Medicine; University of Sri Jayewardenepura, along with the Medical Faculty Students' Union, under the guidance of the Dean and all the academic staff of the Faculty.
