CATHOLIC STUDENTS MOVEMENT
The catholic students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences join with the students of other faculties of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, in the activities of the University Catholic Student’s Movement (UCSM).
Spiritual guidance is given by Rev. Fr. Saman Maxximus, the chaplain of the Colombo region of the UCSM. Catholic lecturers of all faculties, including those of the medical faculty join the students in their activities as well as provide them with spiritual guidance.
The students gather every Tuesday from 12 pm - 1 pm at the Gnaneswara Building for their weekly meeting.
Holy mass is celebrated once a month on Thursday during the lunch hour by the chaplain, at the Mayo’s hall in the Management Faculty.
Special masses are also held on Ash Wednesday, and All Souls Day.
CHRISTMAS
Every year a carol service is organized at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.
A joint carol service is also held together with the students of the Colombo region at a selected church in the Colombo diocese.
- The movement also awards scholarships to needy students.
- The students also go out of their way to coach needy O/L and A/L students spending their time and talent.
- The Colombo region UCSM also publishes a monthly magazine with articles contributed from all 6 units.
