PRESENT RESEARCH INTERESTS


Currently working on the immunogenicity of recombinant Gram Positive bacteria for mucosal immunisation using malaria merozoite proteins as model antigens. Both intra-nasal and oral immunisation procedures are being studied.

Investigating the Effect of age of mice on the systemic immune response to oro-nasal immunizations with Plasmodium falciparum antigen 2 expressed on cell walls of Lactococcus lactis and investigating the gross anatomical, histological and pathological changes in mucosal associated lymphoid tissue.

Normal morphological and morphometric studies of mitral and aortic valve in a Sri Lankan population.

Incidence of Antisperm Antibodies (ASA) and its association to subfertility in couples undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technologies at a selected centre.

An anatomical study of human skeletal remains from the excavation site in Bellanbadipalassa in Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka.

Micro array gene expression and grey matter changes in treatment - naïve schizophrenia patients in Sri Lanka. This study is carried out in collaboration with University of Newcastle, Australia.

Conventional osteology, anthropology and mitochondrial DNA polymorphism of prehistoric human skeletal remains excavated from Pothana and Cobra hood cave, Sigiriya and present primitive groups in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka.

Localization of cholinergic nerves and their cognate receptors in tissues of the immune system.

Anatomical location of parathyroid glands in Sri Lankans and distribution of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs) in normal and diseased thyroid tissue.

Normal morphology and morphometry of the prostate gland and study of benign prostatic hyperplasia: proportion, treatment modalities and outcomes at selected tertiary care centres and private hospitals in Western Province, Sri Lanka.

I as a member of the Biotechnology Committee of the National Science Foundation (NSF) took a main role in preparation and writing the monograph titled "Towards Promoting the Development of Biotechnology Industries in Sri Lanka" which was published by National Science Foundation in 2004 and presented to the Minister of Science & Technology.

As a member of the National Biotechnology Committee took a main role in drafting the "National State-of-the-Art Report" in 2009 which was submitted to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Secretariat.
