AMASI Oration at ASICON 2018 in Chennai, India
Dr. Bawantha Gamage, Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences delivered the prestigious AMASI (Association of the Minimal Access Surgeons of India) oration at the Annual Academic Sessions of the Association of Surgeons of India in 29th December 2018 in Chennai India.
Dr. Bawantha Gamage, being a Fellow of AMASI, is the first Sri Lankan surgeon to deliver this oration. The topic for the oration was "Laparoscopy": Is it a Panacea for all abdominal surgeries?

Sir A.M. De Silva Oration 2018
Dr. Bawantha Gamage, Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences delivered the prestigious Sir. A.M. De Silva oration on "Enhanced recovery after colorectal surgery": Are we ready to shift the Paradigm? at the Annual Academic Sessions of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka held in Collaboration with Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in August 2018.
He was selected for the oration by the academic and the research committee of the college of surgeons of Sri Lanka from the submissions received for the oration.
Professor Senaka Bibile Memorial Oration 2018
Dr. Bawantha Gamage, Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medical Sciences delivered the prestigious Prof. Senaka Bibile oration at the Prof. Senaka Bibille memorial Ceremony held at the BMICH in September 2018.
Dr. Bawantha Gamage, is the first Sri Lankan surgeon to deliver this oration. The topic for the oration was "Challenges faced by the clinicians in rational prescribing"
BMJ Awards South Asia 2018
Dr. Bawantha Gamage, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura has won the best surgical Team of the year 2018 award for his commitment and dedication in implementing the modified Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (mERAS) protocol in managing patients with colorectal cancer in Sri Lanka. His Other team members are Dr. Malith Nandasena, probationary Lecturer in the Department of Surgery and Dr. Chamila Lakmal, Surgical registrar in training who worked in the University Surgical unit at Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
