SELF POTRAYAL
I am an associate professor attached to the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS), University of Sri Jayewardenepura (USJP). I joined as a probationary lecturer in January 2002.
I obtained my basic degree in Medicine (MBBS) from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, then postgraduate qualifications from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo and got board certified as a specialist.
Few selected position held or holding currently are given below.
- Research fellow at University of Kent, the United Kingdom.
- Lecturer at International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
- APW holder/Contractor of the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Sri Lanka.
- The Country Coordinator of Sri Lanka for Fleming Fund, the United Kingdom.
- In-Country Coordinator of Sri Lanka (lead) for regional grant of Fleming Fund, the United Kingdom.
As an academic, I have followed numerous medical education and research workshops, done several dozens of publications, held many positions (as President, Secretary, Treasurer etc. including The Editor-in-Chief and the General Secretary position of the Sri Lanka Medical Association) at University, National and International level, won various awards and research grants and organized lot of symposia, workshops at National level and several International conferences.
I have rendered my professional service free to many health campaigns all over the country.
I hold the National Diploma (Final category) in Traditional Kandiyan dancing. I captained the FMS, USJP Medical Faculty Netball team as a student.
I am a self-driven personality. If I were asked to describe myself using three adjectives, I would say "I am Efficient, Hardworking and Multi-talented".
Outside the academic life, I am a busy but caring mother of two teenagers.
As a human being I am a simple, sensitive, honest person who is bold to do the right thing. I try to enjoy things I do, than to do what I enjoy in life. I choose my actions and thoughts based on values rather than on personal gains. I enjoy scrumptious food, trendy clothes, sports, travelling and time spent with good friends.
