SOUTH ASIAN MINIMAL ACCESS GYNAECOLOGY & ENDOMETRIOSIS CENTRE (SAMAGE)


 

Inauguration of South Asian Minimal Access Gynaecology & Endometriosis Centre will be held on 15th January 2018 by Hon. Dr. Rajitha Senarathne.

This centre is based in the Colombo South Teaching Hospital under the Professorial unit in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Its aim is to provide evidence based, world standard treatment in minimal access surgery for women with gynaecological problems.

The centre has been approved by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) as an international provisional endometriosis centre from 2018. Full accreditation as an international endometriosis centre will be awarded in 2019 following an audit of its work of the year 2018.

SAMAGE centre will be a referral centre for all complex gynaeological problems with special interest in endometriosis. Its aim is to promote training in minimal access surgery, improve standard of minima access surgery in Sri Lanka, promote international collaboration for exchange of information for research and increase public awareness on minimal access surgery for gynaecological disorders.

The centre will be led by consultant gynaecologists together with multidisciplinary involvement from other specialties to provide the best care for its patients. A consultant colorectal surgeon, consultant urologist, consultant aneasthetist with special interest in pain management ans a specialist nurse will provide multidisciplinary input.

Two of the consultant gynaecologists involved in the centre are from the UK. They are representatives of the BSGE and are involved in similar centres in the UK.

SAMAGE centre will enable Sri Lanka to move into the international community of gynaecological endoscopy and will uplift the quality of gynaecological endoscopy in Sri Lanka. This will provide Sri Lanka with an excellent platform to develop its gynaecological endoscopy services and to provide an excellent service to its people.
