LOCAL ACADEMIC PARTNER OF THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE ON PUBLIC HEALTH 2016 (ICOPH 2016)
The 2nd International Conference on Public Health (ICOPH2016) was held from the 28th – 29th July, 2016 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura was the local academic partner among International partners, Monash University, Malaysia, MAHASA University and Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar. The theme of the year was "Bridging the gap between research and policy and creating a global platform to discuss evidence based health policies and interventions in public health"
The Conference witnessed the participation of over 150 participants representing more than 25 countries across the world. The countries included: Taiwan, United Kingdom, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Sudan, Iran, Pakistan, Australia, Phillipines, South Korea, Nepal, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Israel, Switzerland, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Oman etc. Researchers from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura too presented their research findings and won many awards.
The key note speech was delivered by Dr. B.C.V. Senaratna on "Role of sleep-disordered breathing in the NCD epidemic: Current evidence as an awakening call". Many academics, Dr. Sampatha Goonawardena, Dr. Thalatha Liyanage, Dr. Dulshika Wass and Dr. Shalindra Ranasinghe were also chairpersons at this event.
