ELECTIVE PROGRAM ON MIDWIFERY NURSING

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

BSc. Nursing program of the Department of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura was able to offer an elective program on midwifery nursing, for the first time for two undergraduate students from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK. The course contents of this elective program were designed to reflect the fundamentals of midwifery care in a developing country. The program included exposure to community midwifery care and hospital-based clinical observations and teaching, to strengthen knowledge in the respective discipline. Clinical teaching was based at the Colombo South teaching hospital, and Sri Jayewardenepura General hospital. Training on maternity and child health care in a community setting, was done at Boralesgamuwa MOH area.
