Mindfulness Practice Centre of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura was launched on 11th January 2018 with its first mindfulness practice session conducted at the Mindfulness Based Research Room at the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The practice session was attended by Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Prof. D.P.S. Chandrakumara, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Sudantha Liyanage, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Prof. Surangi G. Yasawardene, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Anura U. Kumara, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, and many academic members and non-academic members of the University. The guided practice session was conducted by Dr. Sanath Mahawithanage, Senior Lecturer, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medical Sciences.




Practice of mindfulness is widely accepted and is a scientific tool to cultivate a specific mental skill. Benefits of mindfulness practice are well known. The objective of the centre is to provide a conducive environment to those who are willing to practice.





Practice sessions will be conducted every Thursday from 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm and prior registration is required.
